Transcription: Invented by Alexander Graham Bell in the 1870s, the telephone has revolutionized modern communications. Today almost every home has one and phones are appearing in places such as cars, trains and even aircraft. Public payphones were invented in the 1880s and nowadays come in a huge variety of types and styles. The card payphone was introduced in the early 1980s in a bid to reduce vandalism of pay phones in public places. The modern telephone utilizes the latest microchip technology to handle the many different functions now available.
